A Beginning Introduction to the Various Kutas and a Caution
|
|
It is not the purpose of this article to examine all the Kutas in great detail, but to introduce you to this fascinating system of marriage matching. It should also be made known that experienced astrologers will use the Kuta agreements as one of many tools they might employ in determining the best match possible. The Vedic astrologer will examine the birth charts in detail, especially looking at relationships between the sun, moon and rising sign. There is a special sub division chart, called a "navamsa" chart that is examined for further information about the spouse or partner.
For your interest and as an example of the detail of the kutas, I have given a more detailed example of a Kuta agreement process below. It would be at a later date, in another installment, that I would examine other kuta agreements for interested parties.
As a start I have given an example of the Kuta agreement called Yoni. This indicator shows the potential physical alignment of the couple in terms of the compatibility of their sexual nature. It was the convention of the Vedic culture to represent nature in terms of both human personification and animal representation of life forces. In the Yoni kuta certain animals are represented as being friends or enemies to certain other species of animals. The table below shows the animal type associated with the particular nakshatra that would be occupied by the Moon's of the couple being evaluated.

|
Yoni Kuta
|
|
Means "Birth Source or Female Sex Organ". Indicates sexual compatibility and biologically correct physical matching of reproductive organs. Shows the happiness and the durability of the relationship as promoted by compatible sexual instincts and physiology. How well the couple will enjoy good companionship and mutuality of interests is projected from these matching criteria. The animal natures reflect the nature of attraction the couple will generate with each other. For example, a lion person will have a strong sex drive while that of a sheep will be milder.

Table 4. Nakshatra Animals
and Gender
|
|
From the table
above the following pairings of the couple's Moons give specific
results: For our tally, four out of four would be the best
match.
|
- Couple has same Yoni with the man having male and the woman having female of that Yoni (4/4)
An "A": Excellent compatibility leading to happiness, harmony and prosperity.
- Couple has same Yoni, but man has female and woman has male Yoni (3/4)
A "B": Good Compatibility, some workable discord but harmony prevails
- Couple has different Yoni animals but the animals are not enemies (as shown in table below) and the man has a male Yoni and the woman a female Yoni (2/4)
A "C": Average Compatibility in that the lack of alignment is a source of tension, but the couple, with dedication and attention to improvement, might eventually work out the problems to their benefit
- Couple has different Yoni animals but the animals are not enemies (as shown in table below) and but the man has a female Yoni and the woman a male Yoni (1/4)
A "D": Barely passable compatibility. The relationship endures but is fragile. The couple finds
themselves frequently out of balance with each other, but are bound by some aspects of their marriage, usually giving them sufficient reason to stay together.
- Couple has enemy Yonis (as shown in table below) (0/4)
An "F": While the couple might be infatuated initially for reasons they later cannot comprehend, the overall positivity needed to secure an enduring relationship is missing.

Dangerous Liaisons

The most "disastrous" pairings are the enemy pairs or Yonis shown below. Marriage is NOT
recommended.

|
|
Nadi Kuta
|
|
Means "Nerve Channel". This Kuta agreement shows compatibility of the basic physical constituencies of the partners leading to health and the possibility of good children. It's as if the compatibility ensures that the natural rhythms and energies of the couple unite into one flowing stream. This Kuta Agreement has a relationship to Ayurvedic body types. Vata is airy, quick and versatile, Pitta is fiery, decisive and action oriented, Kapha is watery and earthy and is stable and enduring.
Vata Dosha represents the quality of life that is related to the air and ether elements. It governs all the activities in the body. Everything moves, or blows on the currents of Vata or air. Vata qualities are light (as air), dry, cold, and variable. People who have a predominance of Vata, as indicated by the dominant planets in their chart, are generally thin, quick moving, they learn and forget quickly, and are subject to quick changes in feeling. Vata, when out of balance, expresses itself in poor digestion with gas, dry skin, cold limbs, cracking joints, fitful sleeping, emotional swings, exhaustion, over activity, worry and nervousness. They are like a bird flying around.
Pitta Dosha represents the life force that is related to the energy of fire. Pitta consumes. It is related to strong digestion, hunger, heat or redness in the body, clear speech and thought, motivation, and warmth of expression. Anger, frustration, exasperation, impatience and extreme hunger are signs that Pitta is out of balance in your body. Pitta people have a medium body build, not too muscular, not too thin. Pitta expresses itself in illnesses such as indigestion, ulcers, rashes, fevers, cuts, wounds, bruises and other inflammatory conditions. They are like lions.
Kapha Dosha represents the bodily constitution that is derived from the combination of earth and water elements. Kapha is mostly viewed as earthy, so it governs the strength and structure of the body in general. Being watery, it shows itself in imbalances such as fluid build up, fat, colds, coughs and general stagnation. Kapha people are either calm and balanced or lazy and indulgent. Kaphas are strongly built, have endurance. They are like elephants.

In conclusion:
|
|
As we mentioned previously there are at least 10 or more additional Kutas. We have examined only a few in this presentation. We will have an opportunity at a later installment of this series to explore other kutas and additional techniques used by Vedic astrologers to ensure a good match.
It will also be good to know that once the proper match is determined, the science and art of a Vedic astrologer is called upon to pick an auspicious time to conduct the wedding ceremony. Starting the new life together on an appropriate date will help the new couple start their life together with the best levels of energy, harmony and opportunity for prosperity. Picking the right time for marriage is part of "Muhurtha" or electional astrology and will be dealt with in a later installment.
It is hoped that you enjoyed this brief introduction. You've been shown a very rich collection of Vedic astrology techniques to ensure the correct match in marriage. In fact, as mentioned previously, these techniques can be used for ANY form of a match, be it family, work, business, company to company and so forth.
It would be recommended for those interested, that they have their chart calculated Vedic style to determine the placement of the Moon by sign and nakshatra. Armed with that information, a person can begin to examine the techniques above in terms of their own chart or that of a friend or loved one.
